I woke up broken to the bone, all these years spent climbing, pushing blind
I turned to look but you were gone, had to come to terms with my surprise
A godlike voice said stop your thoughts, just keep moving don’t forget to breath, and that
There are times so many in this very life, he said, and some more, I’m sure, to come
You were just a catalyst, the hole through which I passed for all those years
Why did I? I never thought we had such time
Or did I just imagine everything
But time moves on or so we’re told, the years go forward but never fully clean
You took so much then slipped away, was it real or just a child’s dream
The godlike voice said it was me, brought it forward then and will again and that
There are times so many in this very life, he said, and some more, I’m sure, to come
We could watch the days go by and never give each other something useful
Why would I? I never thought we had such time
We could watch our lives go by and never give each other something loving
Why would I? I never thought we had such time
Did you take my hand there at all?
Did we stumble into sacred just to falter then to fall?
Could I get to you through me, before the lights go out?
Will you find this hand?
I couldn’t wait to get inside
From the shock of a sting in the early light
It was too much to take so you run and hide
But the time; you begin to feel the time
The time’s come to move beyond
Past the useless need to right a long-lost wrong
I can feel it now, drop the stone
It’s time to cut the weight, time to move this thing along
